A Book of My Own

A Book of My Own is a book ownership program which encourages the love of reading and provides opportunities for under-served youth to build a personal, home library through a bi-annual book fair. The program serves all students enrolled in grades K-8 at Bernard Black Elementary School, located in southwest Phoenix where 97 percent of the students are eligible to receive free or reduced lunch.

STEM-READY is the strategic vision of The Links, Incorporated and the National Society of Black Engineers to lead the U.S. to graduate 10,000 Black Engineers annually, with bachelor’s degrees, by 2025. The LINKS-NSBE Jr. Chapters are developing and implementing specific goals in accordance with The LINKS-STEM-READY Program.

 

ACT/SAT Test Prep

ACT/SAT Test Prep is a free, six-week instructional program designed to help students earn the best score possible on the ACT and SAT tests, and get well on their way to college and career success. The program aims to provide underserved, low income and/or minority students the highest quality information and best resources available to help them navigate the college admission process and complete a college degree.  

Young Leaders Academy

The Young Leaders Academy Protégés Program is a comprehensive educational enrichment program which aims to empower girls from underserved and low-income backgrounds by equipping them with the tools and resources they need to achieve their education and career goals. Participants experience the program as a cohort and progress through the program from 9th-grade through high school completion. Areas of emphasis include: leadership, goal-setting, financial literacy, resilience, cultural enrichment, community service and social grace.

Generation Z Votes!

Generation Z: Voter Education Project works with schools and communities to provide youth an authentic voting experience to help educate and empower them to become civically-engaged citizens for life. The annual MLK Youth Celebration presented in collaboration with the NAACP/Black Student Union at Phoenix College, is one of a series of events in which participating students learn about the importance of voting and their personal participation in the political process.

Emerging Artists Program

The Emerging Artists initiatives supports an innovative dual mentoring program presented by the Phoenix Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, in which the chapters, in collaboration with artistic community partners, mentor promising student artists, who in turn mentor their peers in the visual arts. Artistic partners with the West Valley Art Museum provide program participants with formal training, exhibition opportunities, and an annual master class led by a professional artist. In return the student artists lead interactive learning sessions for selected peers less familiar with the chosen arts discipline.

Circle of Hope

The Circle of Hope is a community outreach initiative which aims to serve the needs vulnerable youth and families within the Greater Phoenix area through hands on service focused on providing access to tools resources and services that alleviate food insecurity and homelessness while promoting education, health and well-being – especially among first-time immigrant members of the community. The program is presented in partnership with Victory Community Church.

Zumba for the Heart

Zumba for the Heart is one of a series of community health and wellness education events presented in collaboration with the University of Arizona College of Medicine to raise awareness regarding heart disease in women and to encourage heart-healthy lifestyles. The community collaborative also includes the annual Red Dress Cocktail Party and the Phoenix Chapter of The Links Walk for Healthy Living.

Living History Program

Living History is a comprehensive career education and mentoring program designed to introduce Phoenix area youth to distinguished Arizona professionals who have excelled in a broad range of career fields while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to community service. A community collaborative presented by the Phoenix Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Jack and Jill of America, Incorporated, Phoenix Chapter and the Gammu Mu Boule of Phoenix, Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, the program features a workshop series, which aims to support youth in developing critical “soft skills” such as public speaking, interpersonal communication and teamwork.

Look good, feel good!

The annual Look Good, Feel Good event is presented in collaboration with the Coalition of Blacks Against Breast Cancer. The event provides a day of beauty and inspiration for breast cancer survivors and their allies through complimentary makeovers for recent survivors who may be undergoing chemotherapy and can benefit from a makeup lesson that includes instruction on how to create the look of natural brow and other tips provided by a professional makeup artist.
